Why I Don’t Use Templates: The Difference Between Fast Websites and Custom Design

the difference between fast websites and custom design

I’ve designed 33 websites in the last 70 days.

Not me, but this was a comment I saw on someone else’s post – and the author of the post (also a WordPress developer) was genuinely impressed. Yeah sure it might sound like a great thing, but that don’t impress me much.

You *can* make that many websites in that amount of time but in my opinion you haven’t designed them – you’ve gone to one of your templates (either a bought one or one you made yourself earlier) and changed the fonts/colours/content. This is great if you don’t mind having an identical website to someone else (maybe a competitor) but it’s not unique to you.

I get that’s it’s fast money in your bank account and I could easily do it myself, but I don’t want to. I don’t want to give you someone else’s website, I want you to have your own. Page builders such as Elementor could definitely help with the process and speed things up, but I’m still convinced you’re using designs you’ve already come up with and importing those in. And are these people even taking time out to eat, sleep, or have time away from work?

That’s not how I work.

Every website I design is built from the ground up. I don’t grab a pre-made template, swap out some colours, and call it a day. I take the time to understand your business, your goals, and your vision. Your website should be a true reflection of you – not a slightly modified version of someone else’s.

I incorporate your ideas where possible, refining them with my expertise to create something unique and functional. And I don’t just disappear until launch day – I get your feedback throughout the process, making sure you’re happy with how things are shaping up.

Could I pump out dozens of sites in a short time? Sure. But that’s not what I’m here to do. I’m here to build websites that are thoughtfully designed, tailored to your needs, and actually work for your business. Quality takes time, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you want a site that’s truly yours, not just another cookie-cutter template, let’s talk.
